Hi Adele!
Thank you for the nicely written article on this Leofoto Tripod. I too, shoot the superb Fujifilm X-System, and am always looking for better tripods. I’m just wondering why you consider this particular Leofoto Tripod as “Intermediate level”? Is it the build quality, or perhaps maximum height range? From what I have seen (Leofoto TV), this brand appears extremely well designed. Thanks again! Regards, Steve
Hi Steve! Thank you for your comment and question. I consider the Leofoto tripod reviewed here to be intermediate in terms of build quality. It is solidly built and the design is excellent. They also use a high-end Japanese carbon fiber, so it is not made from a flimsy product. From stability tests over on https://thecentercolumn.com/rankings/travel-tripod-rankings/ this tripod ranked very high, coming in just below the RRS and Gitzo travel tripods. Those tests factored into my categorizing the Leofoto as intermediate as well. While they were not performed in a strict laboratory environment, they do provide data to compare against. The Leofoto came in at about 2/3 of the stability of the RRS TFC-14, which is the best performing tripod that was tested to date.
Hi Adele,
Thank you for your most informative reply! Based on your review and the test link you provided, I decided to test the slightly larger LN-254CT with the same ball head. I look forward to comparing it to the many tripods I have used in the past, including brands like FLM, Mefoto, Oben, Manfrotto, and Promaster, to name a few. Each of course, had their respective strengths and weaknesses. I’m hoping this Leofoto is best for my needs. If interested, please check out my work at http://www.totalqualityphoto.com. Thank you again! Best Regards, Steve
You are welcome! I am glad that the information can be of help. Please let me know how you like the larger tripod as I am curious about the other models that Leofoto produces. And you are absolutely correct – they all have their strengths and weaknesses. And of course there is the element of what features any given photographer needs, as well as what gear they want to support.
I took a look at your site and enjoyed it a lot, particularly the black and white images. Thanks for posting the link!
